Four Hundred Waterwheel Donated To Needy In Nanded District:
As water scarcity growing day by day in
water-starved Maharashtra, women in rural areas
are the first victims of this water-crisis. They have been fighting at fronts as they carry
water loads on their heads for ten miles
and spend nearly five hours a day carrying fifteen litres water in every trip
out of six every day. These women load jars or buckets on their heads. The
pressure, added with the distance to water sources, creates back, feet and
posture problems. They often face impossible choices -either illness without
water or illness from dirty water where death is sure in both the cases.
Understanding
the seriousness of the situation , SSM along with State Bank Of India and
Habitat For Humanity found a time being solution to provide some relief to
these women. Nearly 400 waterwheels have been donated in nine villages of
Nanded district. A waterwheel is a 45-litre container enables water collectors
to roll precious liquid from wells rather than carry it on their heads. Now the
device saves their time and reduces their hardship too. Men too can carry water
rolling to their house so it halves their work burden.
